Scientific Lab Report

Experiment Question: What form of change are we going to observe and what is going to happen?

Background Knowledge All of the food colouring mixed and started to push away from the cotton bud.

Materials: Food colouring Plastic plate Dish washing liquid Cotton bud Gloves Cups Scientists!

Hypothesis: I thought that all of the food colouring would mix and would start to push away from the cotton bud.

Procedure: We got given a plastic plate Miss Gloag gave us some milk to pour into our plate (which Zac B did) Then Mr. Morell and Miss Gloag came around and dripped food colouring into the milk The we were given a cotton bud then we rolled it in the dish washing liquid and held it over the cup so it didn't drip onto the floor Then Zac B put it in and we had turns of holding it in the milk.

Observations: It started to react and push the colours away from the cotton bud with the dish washing liquid on it.

Data/analysis:  The dish washing liquid does not mix with the milk. Instead it floats on top and spreads over the surface. As it spreads, it grabs the food colouring and pushes it away.

Results/Conclusion: In conclusion, it was a great experiment an I really enjoyed it, and it's easy to do on a rainy day!

What I learned: That the dish washing liquid does not mix with the milk, but it actually spreads over the surface and grabs the food colouring and pushes it away.
